Our health is the ultimate price, outside of our time. As athletes, we have to endure the habits that others don’t not only to win the battle against our opponents, but to win the war of longevity.     By 2019 Chris was 36 and playing in his fifteenth season in the NBA. Aware he was playing men twenty years younger them him, he felt he was slowing down. He’s already worked The Game Changers documentary, so wanted to try a plant-based approach.

    “I chose a plant-based life. So far, so good. Not easy. But for me it’s working.” He said “I went cold turkey. I tell you: I was itching. I thought I needed a chicken wing or something. But somehow I made it through. I had the opportunity to executive produce a movie/documentary called Game Changers, which talks about plant-based diets and how it helps athletes.

    Chris found that it also allowed his body to recover faster after grueling practices and games.“I do feel really good” he says. “I think the biggest change for me is the aches and pains of the season. I started working out and training and I got to Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and I thought, am I not lifting hard enough? Am I not training hard enough? Why am I not achy? I ain’t trying to say you have to stay with it, but give it a try.”

  • Tyrann Mathieu

    Tyrann Mathieu is a safety for the Kansas City Chiefs. In 2016, he began transitioning to veganism. He said on Twitter, “I was tired of eating poison [and] was tired of supporting people that don’t support us in a healthy way.” Soon after, he told New Orleans radio personality, Raashad Evans, that ditching animal products was helping him feel more energized.

    The move also helped him lose 16 pounds, according to ESPN. The sports outlet said that though Mathieu slipped up while on the road and ate animal products, the player ultimately “felt better with a plant-based diet.”

  • Deandre Jordan

    In 2018, Deandre went vegan. He made the transition rapidly, motivated by environmental and health concerns.

    “I just was like, ‘This is what I’m doing,’” Jordan said. “It’s been great for me ever since … Once you educate yourself a lot on what you’re putting in your body and where the protein is actually coming from, [going vegan] was an easy decision for me. And also, environmentally, being able to take care of the planet—not only for ourselves but for our children and their children and so on—I just wanted to be able to have some kind of impact on us bettering our environment.”

    DeAndre has also had his own cooking show, ‘Cooking Clean’. The initial eight episodes featured on PlayersTV, which is owned by sportspeople. The shows sees Deandre joined by guest chefs who prepare a plant based meal while discussing plant based food.
